• I led the formation of strategic partnerships with three CROs to support the delivery of the AZ antibacterial, sepsis and various life cycle mgmt portfolios. This included provider selection, contract negotiations, kick-off/on-boarding activities, and on-going governance.
• At the time that I came into this role, a critical sepsis program was significantly behind schedule & above budget, and the relationship with the selected CRO provider for the program was extremely strained. Working closely with the Clinical Product Team and CRO, I was able to successfully resolve these issues and received a leadership award in Sept 2009 for my efforts.
• I worked closely with R&D colleagues in both Japan and China to establish an operational working model to enable these countries to participate in global CRO-managed clinical trials sponsored by AZ.
• From 2010 thru 2012, I was responsible for the management of all monitoring resources in the US. From November 2008 to April 2014 (5 years 6 months) Director of Clinical Outsourcing, US @ Led a group of 24 Clinical Procurement Managers with responsibility for over $120MM USD p.a. in spend with external suppliers supporting the delivery of global clinical trials across the entire AZ portfolio. • Collaborating with the other members of the Global Leadership Team, I developed and implemented a new Global Outsourcing Strategy (EPMT Model) to improve the utilization of external service providers in the delivery of Clinical Drug Development programs, which resulted in an internal FTE savings of 49% during the first full year of operation (2007).
• During my tenure, the US Outsourcing Group also supported several major change programs within the broader Clinical Development organization. This included several members of my team acting as project leads for the following programs:
- outsourcing of the US Regional Monitoring Function;
- externalization of Investigator Payments in the US;
- support of process workstream for Data Management Externalization initiative;
- development & implementation of a Global ISS Registry IT solution.
