About Dylan Drop

📖 Summary

Software Engineer @ View The Space From May 2013 to January 2014 (9 months) Greater New York City AreaSoftware Engineer @ ControlShift Labs I developed an open source project to make a donation service that's easy to use and optimized to increase donation revenue. This tool brings the simplicity of Google Analytics to donations, allowing completely nontechnical users to copy/paste a snippet of code on their website and start accepting donations immediately. In terms of the technical details, this is a KnockoutJS donation client with a Rails API backend. From January 2014 to August 2014 (8 months) Greater New York City AreaBackend Engineer @ Kwoller Developed the API for the mobile shopping app Kwoller. From January 2014 to July 2014 (7 months) Greater New York City AreaCo-founder @ givespend Co-founder, and sole developer of givespend.com. Built an eCommerce marketplace for buying and selling used goods, using the PayPal API to deal with transactions, in particular the Parallel Payments API. Used HTML5 to create a utility for uploading images of items to sell via webcam. Worked with the Amazon S3 API to deal with file uploads. Front-end behavior accomplished through jQuery, including the "realistic" cart feature, which displays the items currently in a user's cart scattered about, as they would appear in a real cart. From December 2011 to January 2014 (2 years 2 months) Greater New York City AreaWeb Developer Intern @ Movenbank Used TDD to develop features on a web application including linking social network accounts, creating a mobile API, and scraping/manipulating data from multiple social networking sites into a consistent, usable format. Worked heavily with integration tests for complex Javascript features, using Cucumber and Capybara. Worked with the Twitter Bootstrap CSS framework for front-end work on pages such as whatiscred.com. From May 2012 to September 2012 (5 months) ManhattanWeb Developer @ QualityFriends Helped developed a tools for a event-planning web app. Features made include an invitation tool, and a food suggestion engine based on the guests invited to the event. From September 2011 to December 2011 (4 months) Greater New York City AreaWeb Developer Intern @ WET Design Designed an intranet page for an approximately 300 person company using the Ruby on Rails platform. Developed online GUI tools that work with jQuery drag-and-drop and AJAX to allow administrators to manipulate the content of the page. Used LDAP authentication to verify accounts externally to the intranet site. Built CentOS server using Apache and Phusion Passenger to host dynamic Ruby on Rails applications. From May 2011 to August 2011 (4 months) Senior Software Engineer - Technical Lead @ Blue Apron I worked on new product development and systems architecture. I was a contributor to our engineering architecture discussions, leading and advising on the proposals of new microservices developed. I was the tech lead on order management within the Ecom team. I helped scale Blue Apron from 12 engineers to a team of over 100.Selected projects:Order management: I was the current tech lead for order management for Blue Apron. This section of the business gaps the bridge between the front-end services that handle a user’s order, and all the business critical processes in an order’s lifecycle — such as charging, promotions, tax, compliance checks — that must happen before we fulfill an order. I make decisions on microservice boundaries and technology choices (such as databases, frameworks) in order to build the most reliable and extensible software for our business. I handled a good amount of the implementation, as well as leading others to make contributions to our order management software.Expanded choice: I was the Tech Lead the Consumer Team's engineering on a large cross-organizational project that has been going since April 2016 to expand the range of product offerings for our customers. The project has involved up to four separate engineering work streams, and up to 15 developers at certain times. Mobile app: Along with a set of mobile contractors and another developer, I helped design and implement the first-ever BA API, and write the iOS client in Swift as well. The app is now preloaded on all iPhones in Apple stores internationally (North America + Europe), and was recently ranked #25 on apps of the year (2015) by Apple. Wine plan: Together with two other developers, I expanded our app to be able to support multiple subscriptions, and integrate with an external compliance and fulfillment service.
