Katie Skelton has more than 16 years of experience as a Chief Nursing Officer. She started her career at Saint Joseph Health in 1982, serving as the Chief Nursing Officer from 1982-1998. During this time, she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospital. Additionally, she served as the Chief Nursing Officer at City of Hope from 1982-1998.Before joining Saint Joseph Health, Katie was an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Vermont. During her time at the University of Vermont, she developed a strong interest in nursing and worked in a variety of positions, including Assistant Professor of Nursing, Assistant Professor of Health Sciences, Associate Professor of Nursing, and Professor of Nursing. Additionally, she worked as a Research Nurse in the Medical Toxicology Lab and a Research Nurse in the Neonatal intensive care unit.Following her graduation from the University of Vermont, Katie moved to California in 1978 to become the Chief Nursing Officer at St. Joseph Health. She held this position for 16 years, during which time she made a significant impact on the hospital. She developed and directed the hospital’s nursing programs, oversaw the hospital’s staff and resources, and developed and implemented new health care policies. Additionally, she participated in the development of Saint Joseph Health’s marketing and communication strategies.Katie is a highly experienced leader and has a passion for nursing. She is knowledgeable about healthcare systems and their unique needs, and she has a strong understanding of the banking and insurance industries. I am confident that Katie will be an excellent leader at Saint Joseph Health and contribute many meaningful changes to the organization.

Katie Skelton began her nursing education at Georgetown University in 1971. She continued her education and earned her BSN in 1975. From 1975 to 1978, Skelton worked as a nursing assistant at a mental hospital. In 1978, Skelton Immuno-psychiatry post-doctoral fellowship at Duke University. There she worked on human immunodeficiency virus research. From 1981 to 1984, Skelton was with the National Cancer Institute. From 1984 to 1987, Skelton was with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. From 1987 to 1991, Skelton was with the Department of Health and Human Services.Since 1991, Skelton has been with the Department of Health and Human Services. Skelton's current role at HHS is as the Director, Office of Mental Health Programs.Katie Skelton's educational background and professional experience provide her with a wealth of knowledge and experience in training and working with the mentally ill. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with the mentally ill, both as an assistant professor of nursing at Georgetown University and as the Director, Office of Mental Health Programs at HHS.
