Data scientist and software engineer.Data Scientist @ I work with various companies to transform their data into data science competitions. I work with them to explore what their data can do for them, what would be an interesting target for predictive modeling, what would make a challenging data science competition, what would make a fair scoring metric to best characterize solutions. I've worked on interesting problems such as brain waves, medical images, insurance modeling, revenue prediction, GIS data, click fraud, click through rate, time series predictions, etc. I then serve as the manager of the competition, answer questions, communicate and monitor activities that go on during the course of a competition, such as feature discoveries, common models that work for a certain problem. I develop heavily on Kaggle's evaluation metrics backend framework implemented in C#. The evaluation algorithms are the code behind all participants submissions. They are executed with every submission, producing scores in near real time. These metrics are well validated and unit-tested against well-known machine learning packages such as scikit-learn (in Python) and R. I use a wide variety of tools to achieve goals - Python, R, Julia and packages such as sklearn, pandas, and various machine learning algorithms. I use AWS GPU instances to do deep learning.
