Starting in 2013, I’ve been a research fellow at Harvard Medical School and at Massachusetts General Hospital. I find that working with large data sets of electronic medical records is intriguing. First, there is the potential for discoveries. Second, the research is applied to real patients, so I have the opportunity to potentially improve the situations of real people on a large scale. Third, research projects that involve real medical data tend to be complex and large, and I find it enjoyable to be a part of teams that consist of a mixture of expertise—physicians, biostatisticians, computer scientists, and engineers. Finally, there is always the potential that I will be a patient myself one day.
Topics I find interesting (random): electronic medical records, wearable sensors, healthcare informatics, bootstrapping, clinical narrative notes, random forests, adaptive LASSO, ROC, feature selection, cloud computing, 30-day re-admission prediction, deep learning, cardiovascular diseases, classification, insomnia, fatty liver, patient outcomes, unstructured data-sets, feature extraction, SVMs, multinomial regression, type-2 diabetes, natural language processing, propensity score matching, logistic regression, real-time healthcare systems, intellectual property, engineering, performance, data structures, statistics, machine learning, medical discoveries, big data, mortality prediction, venture capital.
Research Fellow @ I conduct research related to data mining and predictive modeling to analyze large sets of electronic medical records. From May 2013 to Present (2 years 6 months) Greater Boston AreaCo-Founder & Managing Partner @ Develop and license software that helps people make better investment decisions (see U.S. patent application #14/615,449). From May 2012 to Present (3 years 6 months) Washington D.C. Metro AreaSoftware Developer Engineer @ Co-invented 4 inventions and contributed code related to medical decision support systems and to medical documentation advice systems. Mostly used in emergency rooms, these systems involve techniques such as clustering, decision tree learning, and natural language processing. From July 2008 to May 2012 (3 years 11 months) Washington D.C. Metro AreaIntern @ Developed a visualization system that tracks the locations of physicians, beds, and stretchers in real-time and presents them as animated objects in a virtual reality simulated environment. From August 2007 to February 2008 (7 months) Greater Seattle AreaGraduate Research Assistant @ Managed several courses and workshops by defining curricula, writing exams, lecturing, and guiding students through final projects. From 2000 to 2007 (7 years) IsraelInformatics Fellow @ Developed systems to control mobile robots remotely using variety of hardware such as mobile phones and touch screen computers. From August 2004 to November 2005 (1 year 4 months) Washington D.C. Metro Area
