Timothy J. Mayopoulos has been Fannie Mae's President and Chief Executive Officer since 2012. He is also a member of the company's Board of Directors.
Under Mr. Mayopoulos' leadership, Fannie Mae is fulfilling its central role as the largest provider of mortgage credit in the United States. Fannie Mae has assisted millions of troubled borrowers in recent years, and has supported the housing recovery by enabling millions of families to buy, refinance or rent a home. In addition, Fannie Mae is playing a critical role in creating a better housing finance system for the future, setting sensible standards and developing new market practices and capabilities. Finally, Fannie Mae has been focused on returning value to taxpayers for their investment in the company. In Mr. Mayopoulos' tenure, Fannie Mae has returned to sustained profitability, and has paid $121 billion in dividends to the taxpayers for their $116 billion investment.
Mr. Mayopoulos joined Fannie Mae in April 2009 as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary and was appointed Chief Administrative Officer in 2010. Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Mr. Mayopoulos was Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Bank of America Corporation. Previously, he served in senior management roles at Deutsche Bank AG, Credit Suisse First Boston, and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. Earlier in his career, Mr. Mayopoulos was in private law practice. He is a graduate of Cornell University and the New York University School of Law.
