Chief Executive Officer @ CEO of Hutchison Telecom Sri Lanka, which is part of the Hutchison Whampoa Group, Hong Kong. Hutchison Sri Lanka has deployed one of the largest most advanced 3G networks in Sri Lanka looking to leverage the rapidly growing wireless broadband data/smartphone market there. I had been given the responsibility to lead the Company in its 3G drive and over the last 2 years Hutch Sri Lanka has become the fastest growing 3G operator in a highly competitive five 3G operator market delivering one of the best broadband data services. Although Sri Lanka also has one of the lowest data tariffs in the world, the Hutch operation is well on its way to becoming one of the most profitable 3G operations in Asia. This was primarily due to unique and innovate 3G strategies adopted both in the technical and marketing areas to ensure rapid data growth was converted into positive bottom line impact. From December 2012 to Present (3 years 1 month) Sri LankaGroup COO @ COO of a group based out of Bahrain but operating GSM networks on African continent in Gabon, Republic Central Africa, Congo Brazzaville and Somaliland. From January 2009 to December 2012 (4 years) CEO @ CEO of a joint venture enterprise between Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd Hong Kong and Hanoi Telecom to launch and operate a nationwide CDMA2000 network. From 2007 to 2008 (1 year) CEO @ Took over a CEO of a small GSM operation and relaunched a national GSM network to successfully compete against entrenched global operators such as Telekom Malaysia and Millicom. Turned a loss making operation into a 50%+ EBITDA margin business for the Group. From 2002 to 2007 (5 years) COO @ A joint venture between Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong and CAT Thailand to launch and operate a CDMA2000 network in Bangkok Metropolitan area. As COO managed a global network procurement process to select eventual winner Motorola. Established the Network and IT functions of the company. From 2001 to 2002 (1 year) Operations Director @ Supported the CEO in overviewing the Network and IT functions of the operation. Successfully stabilized and optimized the ETACS network and then later depoyed with a innovative parallel GSM network in the interior of Sri Lanka. From 1998 to 2001 (3 years) Country Manager @ Established a representative office in Yangon Myanmar to prospect for a nationwide GSM license with the Myanmar Post and Telecom. From 1996 to 1998 (2 years) COO @ Was seconded by Hutchison Telecom to Jakarta Indonesia as COO of a newly established joint venture operation to offer nationwide paging services. Established networks in Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya in Phase 1 and successfully launched operations. From 1995 to 1996 (1 year) General Manager @ Seconded by Hutchison Telecoms to India to establish from scratch the newly established telecom joint venture with Max India. From 1994 to 1995 (1 year) Engineer / Operations Consultant @ Worked for Singapore Telecom in Singapore HQ and also seconded to their Thai joint venture operations with Shinawatra Computers and Communications.
