Tamar Nijsten's Email

Curriculum vitae: Tamar Nijsten did his medical and dermatology training in Antwerp. He went to Harvard Medical School and joined Prof. Robert Stern to study the carcinogenic effects of PUVA therapy in psoriasis patients between 2001-2003. For this research project he received a Fulbright scholarship and a grant from the Flanders Scientific Organization. In 2004, he received a PhD in medicine at the University of Antwerp. After completing his residency in dermatology, he joined the department of dermatology at the Erasmus MC and Amphia Hospital Breda. At the Erasmus MC, he started the dermato-epidemiology research group that now consists 10 PhD students, a postdoc and an associate professor. The focus of his epidemiological research group is on skin cancer, psoriasis, skin aging and phlebology and has close ties to public health issues in dermatology. In 2010, Tamar Nijsten received a Vidi-grant to explore the genetics of basal cell carcinoma. Also, in this year, dermatology became part of the Rotterdam Study of which he is the dermatological PI. In addition to his research he sees patients and supervises residents at the Erasmus MC. In the past hè workrd in none academic hospitalen including the Mohs Clinics of which he was one of the directors. He is active in numerous international dermatological organisations including the EADV, ESDR and EDEN and on the editorial board of the number one journal in dermatology (JID), Br J Dermatol and NTVG. Between 2012-2015, he was chair of the Dutch Society of Dermatology and Venereology. He has been appointed professor in dermatology at the Erasmus MC since 2012 with a special focus on public health and epidemiology. In june 2014, Tamar Nijsten became chair of the department of dermatology of Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
