While it’s hard to summarize the first two years of a startup – every founder wears dozens of hats – my early years at Lever were spent defining our product vision in close partnership with our earliest customers. I led our user research – over six months spent in the trenches with world-class recruiting teams – and subsequent product definition and design. After we had onboarded our first beta users, I focused on supporting them and connecting their feedback into our product development cycles. Then, as Lever prepared to launch out of beta in October 2014, I switched my full-time focus to our go-to-market strategy.

While it’s hard to summarize the first two years of a startup – every founder wears dozens of hats – my early years at Lever were spent defining our product vision in close partnership with our earliest customers. I led our user research – over six months spent in the trenches with world-class recruiting teams – and subsequent product definition and design. I helped evolve Chrome, Google’s web browser, from an open-source developer darling to the world’s top browser by market share. Part of the small, team focused on adoption, I saw the product surge through 1000x growth, from 100 thousand to 100 million users. For over a year, I was solely responsible for Chrome’s international markets: Latin America, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia. The need to reach a global audience led me to pioneer social media marketing practices for Google, building up Chrome’s social footprint to over 10M people, larger than that of Google at the time.Speechwriter for Marissa Mayer at Google from August 2008 to August 2009 (1 year 1 month). During an extraordinary year, I supported Marissa Mayer with her speeches, publications, and internal communications. Marissa, serving as VP of Search and User Experience at the time, taught me many lessons about leadership I’m still learning today. I helped Marissa and Google to launch UniversalSearch, Personalized Search, a redesign of Image Search, Flu Trends, and much more. It was a honor to help Google tell the story of its transformation from a niche search site to influential global technology company it is today.CEO at Lever from October 2014 to April 2020 (5 years 7 months) in San Francisco.
