My goal is to help people to be able to see and act upon the connections between environmental health and human health so that they both can thrive. As a sustainability professional currently in the healthcare sector, I also want to help make our global healthcare systems more sustainable. Part of the change required to make healthcare systems more sustainable requires people to value health and take personal responsibility for their health; and that starts simply with healthy eating and movement. Simple to say but often difficult to do. So learning to how to influence human behavior to help solve sustainability challenges is also another long-term goal that I have, but then again I would hope that we all have that goal.
Director of Sustainability @ Responsible for the operation of the Janssen Global Citizenship & Sustainability Council, which establishes and oversees implementation of the sustainability strategies for the pharmaceutical operations of Johnson & Johnson. Main areas of focus include product stewardship and innovation, supply chain responsibility, access to medicines and neglected tropical disease research, and internal and external engagement. Specific topics of interest I am more personally involved in include pharmaceuticals in the environment and other end-of-life impacts, green chemistry, biobased materials, advanced ESG supplier screening, product footprinting and LCA, DfE, green marketing, renewable energy, and sustainability "evangelizing".
Previous roles in J&J include site and regional EHS compliance and management systems support, facilities management, external manufacturing support, and EHS risk assessment. Experience in both consumer and pharmaceutical sectors. From July 1999 to Present (16 years 6 months) Sr. Environmental Engineer @ Managed environmental programs and at McNeil's headquarters facility in Ft. Washington, PA. Also supervised facilities maintenance crew supporting various utilities plants (steam, USP water, air pollution control devices, etc.). From July 1999 to August 2006 (7 years 2 months) Various EHS Positions @ Worked in various EHS positions in Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions and at (former) Corporate office in Oak Brook, IL. From 1991 to 1998 (7 years)
