From July 2010 to March 2013 (2 years 9 months) Nike Athletic Training and Field Sports, Vice President and General Manager @ Oversaw Profit and Loss Statements (P&L) for the $1.6B Football, Baseball, Lacrosse, Athletic Training and Nike Pro categories, increasing revenue by 12 percent and the contribution margin by 15 percent. Managed a leadership team spanning the U.S., EMEA, Asia and the Americas and included the footwear, apparel, accessories, creative, marketing, strategic planning, business development, merchandising, retail, and finance divisions.
• Introduced a new strategic vision, mission and positioning for Nike Football that has improved Nike’s connection with high school and youth football players. The vision gained back market share for Nike Football, and increased overall revenue by more than 10 percent.
• Reset the proposition for Nike Pro apparel, improving the product and marketing, and increasing revenues by 30 percent in one year.
• Facilitated Nike’s acquisition of SPARQ. From July 2006 to July 2008 (2 years 1 month) Nike Global Equipment, Vice President and General Manager @ Optimized all eight business units within the Nike Equipment portfolio, all with different operating models, improving their brand value, while increasing their revenue and profit. Led efforts to collaborate with SPARQ on the Nike SPARQ Training concept, which enables athletes to track their athletic development, measure improvement and benchmark against other athletes worldwide.
• Created a competitive advantage over running shoe competition, and a digital experience that strengthened and deepened the brand relationship via interaction. We realized immediate market share gains, and broader brand halo. Managed to develop this while growing a portfolio of businesses to $1B in revenue and increasing margins by over 10%. From 2000 to 2006 (6 years) Nike Global Footwear Categories and Merchandising, Vice President and General Manager @ Executed a cohesive footwear vision and strategy, managing a $75M budget and over 300 people. Participated on Nike’s corporate strategic leadership team, helping to move the company from a period of decline into a new phase of growth.
• Developed and implemented a seven-stage global product process intended to elevate innovation and establish a cross-functional approach by getting product teams to articulate their merchandising and creative plans to a global audience with a spirit of inclusion.
• Diversified Nike’s footwear portfolio by adding Brand Jordan, Skate and Sportswear to the mix.
• Initiated a sustainability agenda for product creation. From 1996 to 2000 (4 years) Nike Basketball, Basketball Business Director, 1994 – 1996 – Category Marketing Manager, 1991 – 1992 @ Accountable for revenue and gross margin of Nike’s largest and most critical product category, managing a direct budget of $80 million. Led the Nike Basketball advertising effort, which consumed as much as 70 percent of Nike’s advertising dollars and catapulted the Nike brand up the curve in popularity ratings.
• Grew Nike’s basketball category from $300M to $1.5B from 1988-1992, and then brought the category back to this level from 1994 to 1997.
• Wrote the business plan for Brand Jordan, which guided a 30-year agreement with Michael Jordan and began Nike’s path of separating out this brand from Nike Basketball. From 1988 to 1996 (8 years) Nike Brand, Category Marketing Director @ Implemented the product and marketing strategy that drove growth of the Nike brand across all footwear and apparel product categories.
