BYGGmax is a nordic retailer with 100+ stores in Sweden, Norway and Finland. For 20 years BYGGmax has been transforming the business of supplying DIY customers with building material. BYGGmax is more geographically spread compared to our competitors but has less number of SKU (size of assortment). This leads to some different challenges compared to some of our competitors). BYGGmax spends about 250 mio Euro each year on buying direct material (to be sold in our stores). My job basically is about the following; - Maximise the companys margin - Drive sales by offering the right products at the right price - Realise a high stock availability (>98%) - Expanding the eCommerce BYGGmax purchasing and logistics presently includes about 30 persons and manages the following sub areas; - Category management (approximately 250 suppliers) - Logistics (we are managing 3 warehouses and a lot of transportation) - Puchasing administration (data entry, data maintenance, business system maintenance) - Claims handling (the store handles the customer, purchasing handles the suppliers) - Ordering (we issue more than 70 000 purchasing orders every year) - Order management for e-commerce In my opinion purchasing is more and more about logistics. By setting up strong logistics we will buy each SKU in its most efficient way. At BYGGmax this has been achieved by a network of three warehouses serving different purposes. In order to be successful in purchasing you must be an excellent sales person. Only when you have managed to sell the idea why the supplier should offer you best possible price you will receive better offers than the competition. BYGGmax is a member of International buying group "BricoAlliance".
