After I had my first experience with computers, I started getting interested in the stuff behind the screen: electronics and later the software driving it. I familiarised myself with web development to create personal and commercial websites. After leaving high school, I started studying information engineering to get a deeper understanding of software development. At that moment, I also stared becoming more interested in mobile software engineering.
During my study, I started working as a mobile software engineer and familiarised myself with Objective-C and Java. This also led to personal initiatives, including a popular time tracking companion for Mac OS X being sold via the Mac App Store. Due my client-facing approach I started acting as a consultant more often. Since I became interested in solving business problems using IT, I started another study: Information Studies at the UvA. After graduation this study by writing a thesis on the “Effects of Big Data Analytics on Organizations’ Value Creation”, I continued working as a developer for another year, in which I also initiated solutions to improve internal processes. This included a crash reporting mechanism for mobile applications still being used in hundreds of thousands applications world wide. However, I wasn’t able to develop myself at the same speed as I wanted to be, until the moment I was approached by Backbase, world's leading customer experience portal vendor for financial services.
At Backbase I started working as a sales engineer and supported sales cycles all over the world. I’ve pitched for board of directors and general managers of world’s largest financials in the US, Europe, the middle east, south-east Asia, Australia and Japan. Having done this for a year, because of my interest and experience in mobile, I was promoted to mobile product owner making me responsible for laying out the strategic product roadmap for all mobile products delivered by Backbase.
