📖 Summary
Intern in Statistical Machine Translation @ Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK-irst) In partnership with FBK, I wrote a masters thesis on topic-based language model adaptation for speech translation and I participated in the subtitle translation shared task at the International Workshop of Spoken Language Translation (IWSLT 2011). From February 2011 to September 2011 (8 months) Trento, ItalyResearch Intern - Machine Translation @ Microsoft Research on speech recognition error modeling for training machine translation systems for speech-to-speech translation tasks. Added machine translation error modeling functionality to Microsoft's machine translation training pipeline. Our research produced a patent application (USPTO internal number 14/552,200) and a best student paper at Interspeech. I facilitated a joint collaboration with Microsoft and FBK for the IWSLT TED Talk subtitle translation challenge (English-French). From May 2013 to December 2014 (1 year 8 months) Redmond, Washington, USAIntegrator, PPLSolutions @ PPL Corporation I served as a software developer, responsible for data access and business logic development. My team supported business process outsourcing for energy suppliers in deregulated energy markets. I co-developed a customer self-service web application using a combination of ASP.NET (C#, VB), Oracle-PL/SQL, web services. My responsibilities included developing customer acquisition campaign management systems servicing 600,000+ customers; extracting and organizing web crawls of energy supplier pricing and market data for over 30 electric utilities, and forecasting energy pricing; and generating billing documents for customers. From July 2006 to August 2009 (3 years 2 months) Allentown, Pennsylvania AreaCo-operative Associate @ PPL Corporation Customized a geographic information systems (GIS) intranet Storm Outage Viewer application using ESRI's ArcIMS for a PPL's service territory. The application was used to efficiently dispatch service linemen to resolve power outages. I provided production support to PPL Electric Utilities' Workflow Management System (PL/SQL) and designed web graphic controls to solicit participation in advertising campaigns on their customer self-service website. From June 2004 to August 2005 (1 year 3 months) Allentown, Pennsylvania AreaIntern in EuroMatrixPlus Machine Translation Project @ Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) Co-developed a machine translation website called WikiTrans under the EuroMatrixPlus initiative to allow users to translate and post-edit Wikipedia articles and to capture machine translation edits to improve translation quality. From August 2010 to February 2011 (7 months) Speech Translation Advisor @ Waverly Labs I identified speech and machine translation research advances that could be productized into Waverly Labs' translation wearables and I recommended strategies to measure translation quality across several languages in conversation scenarios. From August 2016 to December 2018 (2 years 5 months) Brooklyn, NYPhD, Computer Science @ Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK-irst) Research on the impact of speech recognition errors on spoken language translation quality. I investigated strategies to model common speech recognition error patterns and ambiguity of speech directly into machine translation (MT) models during system training. I designed a hybrid spoken language translation system pipeline that utilized speech recognition system (ASR) behavior to improve machine translation training while avoiding a tight coupling between ASR and MT.Participated in four International Workshop on Spoken Language Translation (IWSLT) evaluation campaigns and three Machine Translation Marathons. From September 2011 to April 2017 (5 years 8 months) Trento Area, ItalySenior Inventive Scientist - Natural Language Processing @ Interactions LLC Research and development for speech-centric natural language processing technologies. My team is responsible for designing a new product to identify important entities in real-time customer-agent conversations. I develop natural language models and work with our internal transcription and labeling team to develop an active learning pipeline to rapidly collect annotations from sensitive data.I also serve as a Diversity & Inclusion Ambassador. New Providence, NJCo-Founder, Managing Director @ Miles4Migrants As the executive sponsor and product owner of our internal Salesforce migration project, I facilitate communication between our external vendors, pro-bono volunteers, and internal users. I serve as the executive point of contact for our ongoing software development efforts to professionalize our charity's booking and donor engagement activities to support our increasing scale of clients. As of August 2020, we have provided flights for over 2,800 refugees and asylum seekers. Greater New York City Area
