My research interests lie in data mining and machine learning. I build a variety of statistical models and machine learning tools to solve interesting data problems, such as predictive modeling, personalized recommendations, search, and relevance ranking. Computationally speaking, I have experiences in supervised learning including classification/regression and regularization algorithms, unsupervised learning such as topic models, regularized mixture models and graphical models, and reinforcement learning using function approximation. I also played with Bayesian online learning, feature learning and selection, and so on. During my Ph.D. studies, I designed a myriad of probabilistic models and combinatorial algorithms for projects in large-scale graph mining and analytics, ranging from graph indexing and querying, to graph anomaly detection. I also designed solutions for various business analytics and optimization projects.Data Scientist @ Core data science team From February 2015 to Present (11 months) Data Scientist @ Applied machine learning division From May 2014 to February 2015 (10 months) San Francisco Bay AreaData Scientist @ Building statistical models and machine learning tools to enhance user experience in online work marketplace Projects: - Customer classification and clustering - Topic modeling for feature learning - Freelancer ranking using Bayesian online learning From August 2013 to May 2014 (10 months) San Francisco Bay AreaResearch Assistant @ Graph mining, data mining, machine learning, statistical modeling, business analytics, etc. From September 2008 to September 2013 (5 years 1 month) Microsoft Research Intern @ Statistical modeling and inference Project: a Bayesian online learning framework to rank contestants for a crowd-sourcing task based on their past performances, using factor graphs and inference From December 2012 to March 2013 (4 months) Cambridge, United KingdomBing RSDE Intern @ Project: Entity recognition and linkage Team: Document Understanding, Bing Indexing and Knowledge From June 2012 to September 2012 (4 months) Research Intern @ Markov decision process modeling Project: customer lifetime value maximization and cross-sell optimization using Markov decision process and function approximation Team: Data Analytics and Customer Insights Team, Business Analytics and Mathematical Sciences Department From June 2010 to September 2010 (4 months) Research Assistant @ Financial forecasting, sentiment Analysis, time series analysis, etc. From September 2005 to June 2008 (2 years 10 months) Intern @ Project: connection network intelligence Team: Business Intelligence Team From July 2007 to September 2007 (3 months) Intern @ Project: JVM resource management Team: Autonomic Middleware and Service Delivery Team From October 2006 to April 2007 (7 months) Ph.D., Computer Science @ University of California, Santa Barbara From 2008 to 2013 M.S., Computer Science @ Peking University From 2005 to 2008 B.E., Computer Science @ Wuhan University From 2001 to 2005 Nan Li is skilled in: Data Mining, Machine Learning, Algorithms, Computer Science, Time Series Analysis, Graph Mining, Java, Algorithm Design, C++, LaTeX, Optimization, Artificial Intelligence, R, Pattern Recognition, Eclipse
