I have been a real estate development manager since going to work for Hines shortly after graduating from Georgia Tech in 1980. I am currently Managing Director for Hines in the Washington DC office, focused on urban and suburban transit oriented development as well as project development and property services for the federal government and the Department of Defense. Projects I currently lead include the mixed-use redevelopment of the Public Safety Training Academy in Montgomery County, and the development of office facilities at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in St. Mary's County, Maryland.
My professional and personal life were forever changed in 1990 when our second son, Edward Scott, was diagnosed with autism. He is currently living at home and benefits from a day program funded by the State of Maryland. My wife and I are among thousands of local families – millions nation wide – with few options for our disabled son to live a life as independent as his two brothers. Following two years of so of organizational effort, in the fall of 2013 we founded a new organization titled “The Ability Project”, to create a social service, residential and community service model in which adults with learning disabilities, including our son, will be able to live, work and recreate with a level of independence aligned with the hopes and desires of the special citizens of that community, and their families.
