Over the last 14+ years, I've had the privilege of working in the rapidly-evolving arena of optical telecommunications, with the majority of that time spent in optical system design, architecture, and engineering. In that capacity, I've developed the strong experimental, analytical, and research skills to be able to drive innovation in metro, regional, and long-haul DWDM network design, which now includes coherent transmission and DSP, flex-grid ROADM-enabled networks, and ultra-low latency systems. In particular, I've become well-versed in the area of fiber linear and nonlinear transmission (dispersion mapping, crosstalk effects, noise accumulation, PMD, SPM, XPM, FWM, SRS), amplifier technologies (EDFA, Raman) and optical switching architectures (ROADM). I've gathered considerable knowledge and experience in developing experiments to quantify system effects, as well as in generating detailed, accurate numerical simulation models of these systems. Many of the results that come out of my work have some degree of novelty, leading to patents, peer-reviewed publication submissions, and conference papers. Most recently, I've fully developed a method for defining and characterizing crosstalk accumulation in ROADM networks - the topic of multiple conference and journal publications to date - which has since been adopted by several component vendors, research institutions, and other systems vendors within the industry. Additionally, I have a good track record working cross-functionally with those within and outside of the company. Internally it takes the form of providing feedback to PLM or SDAs for product or feature feasibility, collaborating with SW, HW, or FW in the development process, and providing sub-system specifications for procurement and engineering rules to system consultants. Externally, it looks like providing top-tier support for escalated field issues or supporting technically-challenging customer lab trials, both domestically and internationally.
