Selling over 2 million consoles in the first three weeks, Xbox One has delivered on the promise of a modern, all-in-one device that personalizes your entertainment for you – games, television, the internet and more.
Delivered a new experience – powered by Kinect that automatically recognizes you and allows you to navigate all of your content – including your live television – with the power of your voice. Integrated Skype and other Microsoft services into the experience to deliver the best modern experience in your living room.
Accelerated the pace of innovation and of customer usage on Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE through new software and service experiences, including Xbox Smartglass and broadening the entertainment application platform, bringing more experiences, faster to the platform.
Delivered the Kinect program on Xbox 360 in November of 2010 introducing the world to the idea that “you are the controller” At the time, setting a Guiness World Record for fast selling consumer electronics device – selling 10 million units within the first 60 days. From January 2010 to March 2014 (4 years 3 months) Corporate Vice President, Xbox LIVE (GM, Xbox LIVE prior to 2009) @ Responsible for growing the award winning and highly profitable Xbox LIVE service to more than 50 million users. Delivered a string of constant innovation in gaming service features and expanded the reach and breadth of the service across multiple classes of content. Including the first scale deliveries of streaming Netflix and video content, integrated voice and video communication, and cross media search services. Under his tenure, Xbox LIVE has constantly improved customer engagement and usage across all categories of content.
In 2008 Marc led the revolution of the entire console experience with the “New Xbox Experience” creating an all new visual interface and adding many now-loved features such as Xbox Avatars and Xbox Party Mode communication. As a result, usage of the service has almost doubled with an average Xbox LIVE gold member spending well over 60 hours per month on the service. From October 2007 to January 2010 (2 years 4 months) GM, Xbox Accessories and Platform Integration @ During the lead-up to launch of the Xbox 360, Marc led the development of the accessories portfolio, delivering 19 accessories at the launch of Xbox 360 and developing the “good-better-best” playbook for the key accessories categories still used today to deliver the accessory ecosystem.
The center point in this portfolio is the wireless Xbox 360 gamepad. Prior to the broad availability of Bluetooth, Marc and the team developed a from-scratch wireless protocol to meet the aggressive needs of console gamers and delivered an ergonomic design that has become an industry standard and classic. The Xbox 360 gamepad is often referred to as the standard to which other game controllers are compared.
Also during this time period, Marc led incubation efforts within Xbox exploring new forms of input. Some of this early thinking would later inform the effort that became the Kinect program. From April 2004 to October 2007 (3 years 7 months) GPM, Xbox Platform @ Marc was one of the founding members of the Xbox core platform team and was responsible for the user experience and system software on the original Xbox console. He was also the group program manager responsible for the launch of Xbox LIVE in 2002. From April 2000 to April 2004 (4 years 1 month) Software Design Engineer @ Out of college, Marc joined Microsoft as a software developer on the base software team for Windows 2000.
