I like driving product innovation, ambitious missions, and improving customer satisfaction. At ThoughtWorks, I helped high profile companies in their IT product strategy and execution. Taking their high-level business mission for an innovative product and guiding the creation and delivery of an actionable solution. Helping form the overall product vision through its design, development, and deployment.

Co-founder @ From 2015 to Present (less than a year) Senior Business Analyst @ From November 2014 to Present (1 year 1 month) Manchester, United KingdomSenior Business Analyst @ My project was to rebuild one of the core systems which over 900 private and public organisations use to enter data which is then used by over 1.5 million UK citizens.
This project was very high profile within Government Digital Services. With an exceptionally small delivery window and complex integration between new and legacy systems, involving a large amount of risk, this project was no small feat.
The complexity lies within building innovative new systems and business processes whilst still being compatible with extensive legacy systems, implementing comprehensive end-to-end testing of this new service and elaborate migration of data from the old service and introducing Agile Methodologies into a traditional environment. From May 2014 to February 2015 (10 months) Business Analyst @ From January 2012 to October 2014 (2 years 10 months) Manchester, United KingdomProject Manager and Business Analyst @ We took startup company, Silent Herdsman from discovery and ideation, to releasing the first Minimum Viable Product to their customers, and continuously delivering new features multiple times a week. A key part of this project was facilitating this company’s product vision and helping them grow their internal capabilities.
We built a scalable cloud infrastructure that syncs data collected from hardware attached to the cow, to an online application accessible to the farmer from any device (from the touch screen PC in the milking shed to an iPhone).
We visited farms across the UK for contextual inquiries at the beginning of the project. Every week we conducted usability testing with famers with sketches to prototypes then finally the real product. This fast user feedback ensured we were building the most valuable features first and were able to react quickly to feedback.
Here is a short video about the project - http://thoughtworks.wistia.com/medias/9uxdvq1y2g From January 2014 to May 2014 (5 months) Strategic Programme Review @ I engaged with this company to do a strategic portfolio review of their 2014/2015 IT projects. The focus of this report was to assess the level of effort required to deliver each of the planned projects by the necessary date; and confirm whether the planned portfolio is achievable within the necessary timeline. The report also featured analysis on the business value of projects, dimensions used for prioritisation, IT challenges and recommendations. From November 2013 to December 2013 (2 months) Strategic Business Consulting @ Our aim was to deliver a new and engaging proposition, reduce costs significantly and to tie together the current diverse digital initiatives. We facilitated ideation sessions with the executive leadership, persona and user journey workshops and technical workshops. We combined business process re-engineering, with a proposed technical implementation and a focus on the end user to develop a strategic business proposition, key recommendations and delivery plan. From September 2013 to October 2013 (2 months) Project Manager, Business Analyst & Experience Designer @ Won Big Chip 2014: Best Application of Technology Award
Three team members (including myself) built Tramchester during a 5 week ThoughtWorks internal Technology Lab. The goal for the Technology Lab was to experiment with cutting-edge open source technology. Our hypothesis was that we could achieve greater results if we applied this to a building a real life application. We concentrated on Graph Database technology within the Travel and Transport industry. Through quick ideation workshops and user feedback we developed the idea and feature backlog. Within 5 weeks we delivered the Minimum Viable Product, a successful twitter campaign and generated a substantial amount of free publicity.
We used a graph database to model the tram data and calculate the best routes for customers to take. The app uses Amazon cloud infrastructure and open source technology through a mobile first approach. It provides directions for catching a chosen route based on departure and arrival time, as well as locating the nearest tram stops using spatial index.

We used hypothesis driven development and continuous measurement approach. We hypothesised the value to be gained from each story based on existing metrics, A/B testing, competitor analysis, user research and usability testing. Once the feature was live we measured the impact of each story to see its conversion impact and financial value. With a fast paced lean approach we were able to go from sketch to prototype, usability testing, development and put the feature live, all in a single week. From February 2013 to June 2013 (5 months) Business Analyst @ In this project we built their first transactional e-commerce application. This was a cross-mobile application for iPhone, Android and other HTML5-capable devices, along with a set of re-usable backend enterprise system services. This project also involved reshaping their IT capability by introducing Agile and Kanban methodologies in a very traditional environment.
