UCi2i is the first truly independent, global, carrier-grade video collaboration network, with operational regional head-quarters in London and Hong Kong. From March 2012 to March 2013 (1 year 1 month) London, United KingdomProduct Manager, Office of the CTO @ Karl represented and acted as proxy for the then current CTO of Collaboration (Håkon Dahle) in Engineering, Product Management and Product Marketing meetings. Karl would also represent the complete collaboration solution while attending industry events, external sales meetings, and partner summits. Specifically Karl was responsible for all SP architecture and strategy, and production of thought leadership to the senior management for Cisco Collaboration. This would also entail meetings with service providers, large partners, global enterprises, and analysts.
Karl was brought into Cisco as part of the Tandberg acquisition, and had held roles within Solution Architecture, Technical Partner Management, Global Partners, and Managed TelePresence in Tandberg. Karl’s role required him to be the technical lead for all EMEA opportunities, including ABN AMRO ($5M in product, $2M services). Evident Software wound up most of its operations in November 2006, after failing to find a buyer or further external funding. From August 2006 to November 2006 (4 months) IT Manager @ Karl ran the IT team in London for Blue Group International (a mid-sized recruitment company, 180 employees in the group, two offices, four direct reports) after their existing IT manager left to start his own business. Importing a structured sense of management style, combined with his commercial and technical experience, has enabled this company to jump-start its IT strategy. From June 2004 to August 2006 (2 years 3 months) Global MIS Director @ Micromuse is the leading provider of real-time fault management and service assurance software, headquartered in San Francisco with offices surrounding the globe and approximately 650 employees. Karl initially joined Micromuse to trouble-shoot a demonstration lab in New York, and subsequently ran the MIS team globally. From April 2001 to May 2004 (3 years 2 months) Director, Data Centre Operations/Technical Operations @ GlobalKom was a start-up service provider company with key partnerships with telecommunications, software, and system integrator vendors. Karl's role required him to develop business planning, fundraising, strategic company direction, technology partners, suppliers, and implementation strategies. From June 2000 to March 2001 (10 months) Senior Manager Strategic Planning @ Karl was responsible for Service Delivery and business planning reviews. All deals contained at least one data centre - typically over 100K sqft, and at least one OSS over $20M. From March 2000 to June 2000 (4 months) Pre-Sales Consultant @ Karl's position required him to manage the Microsoft consultancy team inside MorseData in the south, and implement complex integrations. He consulted on a wide rage of software technologies from Microsoft, HP, SAP, Oracle, etc. and on hardware from HP, HDS, EMC, etc to companies such as Telenor, Hutchison 3G, Homebase, Sky TV, ABN AMRO, GlaxoSmithKline, etc. From August 1998 to March 2000 (1 year 8 months) Product Test & Applications Engineer @ Brand Communications develop and manufacture a range of leading remote and site-to-site access solutions for all environments including ISDN, PSTN, Fixed lines, and GSM.
