📖 Summary
Director of Engineering @ Chan Zuckerberg Initiative From February 2017 to July 2018 (1 year 6 months) San Francisco Bay AreaBoard Member @ Teach For America From October 2014 to January 2017 (2 years 4 months) San FranciscoDirector of Engineering @ AltSchool From December 2015 to November 2016 (1 year) San FranciscoVP Product @ Remind From March 2014 to June 2015 (1 year 4 months) San Francisco Bay AreaEngineer-in-Residence @ S23P From May 2013 to November 2013 (7 months) Head of Engineering @ Deck Building predictive tools for progressive campaigns and advocacy organizations. San FranciscoSoftware Engineer @ The Movement Cooperative The Movement Cooperative is a member led organization focused on providing data, tools and strategic support for the progressive community. Our mission is to break down technological barriers for organizations that fight for social justice. From January 2019 to June 2019 (6 months) Volunteer Engineer @ Swing Left Built the engine that would recommend relevant campaign volunteering events to each of Swing Left's members. Swing Left generated over 125k RSVPs to campaign event shifts, and had a big impact on the midterms! From August 2018 to November 2018 (4 months) Technical Director Intern @ Pixar Animation Studios Made rat fur look wet in a few scenes in Ratatouille. Seriously, that's what I worked on (among a few other things). It was a blast. From June 2006 to November 2006 (6 months) Intern @ Apple Worked on video editing prototypes for Final Cut Pro From June 2005 to September 2005 (4 months) Intern @ Apple Built PackageMaker (developer tool) that shipped with Mac 10.4 Tiger. From June 2004 to September 2004 (4 months) Engineering Manager and Director @ Facebook Engineering manager for about a dozen product launches across Photos, Video, Groups, Pages, Chat, Privacy, Profile. Examples include:- Dramatically streamlining Facebook's privacy settings, which had been built initially in an ad hoc and inconsistent manner.- Migrating free-form profile fields (like interests, schools, employers) into structured fields that link to other profiles on Facebook.- "Timeline", which for the first time allowed viewers to scroll back quickly through a user profile to see highlights over the years. My role was a combination of people management, technical management, coding, and product strategy. From January 2009 to May 2013 (4 years 5 months) Engineer @ Facebook Dropping code on Photos, Video, Chat, and Profile.Notable launches:- Video. Built the original version of Facebook Video with a team of 5. My main responsibility was the backend video processing pipeline.- Chat. Built the original version of Facebook Chat (the little windows you see in the corner of the website), with a team growing from just 3 engineers. Took the project from a hackathon prototype into a production system which handled tens of millions of users at full launch. My responsibilities included the entire Javascript frontend, much of the PHP business logic, and much of the product strategy. You can thank me for probably 40% of the bugginess of Chat in its first year - not an easy project :) From January 2007 to December 2009 (3 years)
