Joel began his career with McDonald’s as a regional marketing supervisor in Greenville, South Carolina. Over his 14 years with McDonald’s he has held various Marketing roles and last served as the East Division Marketing Officer for the US business prior to joining McDonald’s Canada in early 2010. As Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Canada, Joel leads a team of marketing, consumer and business insights and menu professionals along with various agency partners to build consumer connections to the brand. McDonald’s Canada has seen significant growth in market share and brand health during his tenure. Joel led the launch of the McCafé brand in November of 2011 which continues to develop and grow within McDonald's Canada. In 2012, Joel led the development and execution for ‘Our Food. Your Questions.’ an innovative program that engaged consumers in a transparent campaign about McDonald’s. This program received numerous accolades for its success in the digital and social networking landscape. Sales and Guest Counts have increased at record levels since 2010 and McDonald's Market Share has reached all time highs in Canada during Joel's tenure as Chief Marketing Officer. In 2011 Joel was named Marketer of the Year by Strategy Magazine and McDonald's Canada was named a finalist for Marketer of the Year by Marketing Magazine. In 2012 McDonald's Canada was named Canadian Marketer of the Year by Marketing Magazine. In 2013 McDonald's Canada was named Brand of the Year by Strategy Magazine. Joel is a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Prior to joining McDonald’s in 1998, he held marketing positions with Georgia-Pacific Corporation and Southwest Airlines. A strong supporter of community initiatives, Joel has been an active board member including roles on boards for the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of North Carolina.
