Senior Electrical Controls Engineer @ Perform all aspects of electrical control system design, integration, documentation, and all related programming. C-Programming of embedded controllers, SBCs, and AVR & ARM microcontrollers, implementing DIO, ADC, DAC, USART, USB, PWM, RTC, SPI, I2C, PHY Ethernet, and web-page development, in microcontroller applications. Familiar with Atmel AVR and ARM (Cortex M3), and MicroChip PIC brands of microcontrollers, FreeRTOS real-time operating system, and Adam Dunkels lwIP lightweight TCP/IP stack for embedded controllers. From March 2009 to September 2010 (1 year 7 months) Engineering Specialist @ Perform variety of engineering tasks in R&D, product design, and manufacturing, for 3-D X-Ray imaging equipment. Utilize AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other software to generate BOM, exploded views and diagrams for manufacturing, technical support and training. Provide engineering support to Field Service & Tech Support staff. Interface with scientists, doctors, clients, and operators regarding technical information and issues. Was involved eight years earlier in the initial development of this instrument and software (see SmithKline-Beecham below), and now responsible for overseeing ongoing field service, maintenance, and upgrades to existing equipment, and mechanical and electrical redesign for next generation equipment. From November 2004 to July 2006 (1 year 9 months) Senior Electrical Controls Engineer @ Responsible for all aspects of system architecture, electrical design, and software development, in the implementation of control systems and software applications for custom automated machinery and related systems across a wide variety of industries and applications including pharmaceutical. Apply Ladder-Logic programming skills for a variety of PLCs including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Koyo, and DirectLOGIC. Specify and program robotic systems, multi-axis servo and stepper motors, and other embedded processors. PC-based application development in VB, Visual C++, and ‘C’, also utilizing SQL and ODBC. Additional programming in scripted, interpreted, and compiled proprietary instruction sets. Program PC-based systems and embedded processors using C/C++, Windows SDK and Windows MFC, incorporating ArcNet communication topology for custom DCS system, to provide real-time machine control. DCS network consisted of one host and eleven cells to monitor, coordinate, and control equipment such as: web control, thermoforming, electrical impulse sealing, servo drives, punches, pick and place, vision inspection system, printing, etc. From February 1999 to August 1999 (7 months) Electrical Engineer (contract) @ Provide automation programming and controls expertise for robotics, transport systems, lab diagnostic instruments, and instrument interface. Ethernet communication from PLC to UNIX host for messaging, database and scheduling operations using bar-code lookup tables. Predominate use of Allen-Bradley SLC/500 and PLC5/40E series processors, co-processors, and communication modules, and Siemens PLC. Apply electrical and software controls engineering skills in system concept, design, architecture, integration, programming, and production support. Responsible for the implementation of a controls system to automate a large scale clinical diagnostics lab with the potential to handle ~80,000 specimen samples per night, substantially increasing throughput while alleviating hardware upgrade costs of approximately $120k within one year. From August 1996 to February 1999 (2 years 7 months) Project Engineer, Electrical @ Program Visual C/C++ for wireless voice recognition project. Engineer consultant in the research and analysis of client plant operations and efficiency of manufacturing facilities. Develop WonderWare SCADA applications to incorporate graphical illustrations and text to display Electrical Service and Operation & Maintenance information for custom online help at an MMI. Investigate, reverse-engineer, and document instrumentation and controls schema for existing automation systems, then prepare detailed Electrical Service and O&M manuals. Organize, supervise, and conduct formal classroom training for plant maintenance personnel. Supervise the implementation, integration and installation of packaging lines, equipment, and systems for capitol projects. Interface with clients, machine builders, and equipment vendors. Provide PLC programming and system integration expertise. From January 1995 to August 1996 (1 year 8 months) Project Engineer @ Full project responsibility for the engineering and integration of automated systems primarily for pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging lines. Execute all phases including concept, design, development, installation, startup, validation, and training. Conduct design reviews and interface with sales staff, clients, vendors, contractors, operators, and maintenance personnel. Design mechanisms and control systems, select and procure necessary equipment, and perform all related PC and PLC programming required for integration. Includes calculations for servo motor selection and programming for multi-axis motion control; and setup, lighting and configuration of Machine Vision processors; and barcode readers. Integrate PLC logic and custom 'C' and Windows SDK programs for real-time data acquisition and operator interface. Develop DMACS and WonderWare SCADA databases, graphics, and alarm configurations, and utilize CDA and API libraries to access their run-time databases.
