I am a software engineer based in New York City, helping to build Custora, a predictive analytics platform for e-commerce marketing. I recently participated in the winter 2015 cohort at App Academy. I love building things for the web and working to make them functional, powerful and beautiful. Coming from an academic background in ecology, I've previously worked as an avian field biologist and leading arts and outdoor programming for adults with developmental disabilities. I'm passionate about the natural world and people, and interested in building things in the digital world that bring the two closer together.
Jr. Software Engineer @ Custora is a marketing platform that leverages predictive analytics to improve e-commerce retailers' customer acquisition and retention. From May 2015 to Present (6 months) New York, NYDirect Support Professional @ Creative Trails is an experiential community support program for adults with intellectual uniqueness. I planned and led programming focused on engagement with the environment, including birdwatching trips, nature hikes, and mushroom spore printing workshops. I also supported Trails' artistic, culinary and agricultural programming in alignment with participants' interests, offering choices and opportunity to help guide those served to greater independence and fulfillment. From May 2014 to December 2014 (8 months) Portland, MaineField Biologist/Technician @ Monitored, captured, and studied a wide variety of bird species for demographic/experimental studies and management regimes. Included migratory songbird/landbird mist-netting, raptor trapping, and seabird colony management/observation. From 2012 to 2013 (1 year) Idaho, Maine, and Saipan, CNMIDoherty Coastal Studies & Kent Island Research Fellow @ Conducted two years of self-designed research and two seasons of independent field data collection on the habitat ecology of the rock gunnel, an intertidal fish. Project culminated in an honors thesis and academic publication (see below). Study used ArcGIS, logistic regression and CART/decision tree analysis to quantify microhabitat use and preferences.
