Ilia Baranov is a senior engineer at Clearpath Robotics in Canada, where the primary tasks is both enabling and preventing the robot revolution. He is active within the Open Source Robotics community, helping maintain JACO, Jackal, PR2 ROS packages; and is the creator of the popular ROS 101 blog series. He is the managing engineering of the PR2 support team at Clearpath and leads the technical demonstration group. Ilia holds 2 patents related to mobile communications and successfully licensed technology from a business venture. He will often take the swiss army knife approach to a problem, where the faster and most versatile solution is preferred to the perfect solution. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in electrical engineering in 2013. Robotics and automation have been lifelong interests for him.
His hobbies are rock climbing, snowboarding, hacking random things, making things, and a few computer games.
Making compelling demonstrations of cutting edge technology, and pushing the boundaries on what is possible with robotics. On tight deadlines, with limited supervision, he takes difficult projects and turn them into success stories.
