NASA Ames Research CenterPost-Doctoral Research Associate @ University of Pittsburgh I joined the University of Pittsburgh as a post-doctoral research fellow to conduct research in medical informatics. I was part of a multidisciplinary team that consists of researchers from the Department of Computer Science, Department of Biomedical Informatics, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC, a leading health care provider). Our research was funded by National Institute of Health (NIH) and focused on developing new mining techniques for clinical monitoring and alerting. From September 2010 to July 2013 (2 years 11 months) Research Assistant @ Michigan State University I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science, with research emphasis in machine learning and information retrieval, from Michigan State University in August 2010. In my PhD dissertation, I explored the development of sequential learning techniques to solve multi-class classification and ranking problems under the constraint of partial human feedback (labeling). I developed techniques that had fast running times, limited memory requirements, and that were able to work in situations where only limited human feedback was available. These techniques could be used in information retrieval applications in which the relevancy of items (e.g. movies) w.r.t a query (e.g. user) needs to be determined. Possible applications include online advertisement, recommendation systems, and computational biology. From May 2009 to September 2010 (1 year 5 months)
