Develop the overall infrastructure architecture (compute/storage & network) to support Microsoft's line of business applications as well as various product development efforts. Manage team of engineers that implemented the first commercial Internet backbone for MCI. This backbone was the initial commercial replacement for NSFNet and interconnected the original regional US IP networks including Merit/MichNet, NorthWestNet, NYSERNet, SESQUINET, SURAnet, etc. Provide performance reviews/plans, budget, and reporting for approximately 15 full time employees. Provide lead technical (level 4) support for MCI's Frame Relay and IP public data networks. Develop and implement systems, processes, and project plans to implement additional services to include DNS, Usenet, switched access, dial up, and related Internet services. Interface with MCI's global partners including Stentor, KDDI, and British Telecom. A key personal success included the development of an "automated provisioning" system which allowed several thousand orders per week to be provisioned in an automated fashion reducing operations engineers required to support provisioning and management of Frame Relay customers.
