I'm a writer, editor, broadcaster and musician from New York City, currently based in Washington, D.C. I'm named after a biblical figure, an Eastern religion and a jazz song. After passing through the Harper's Magazine and Aperture Foundation internship programs, spending two years in the editor's chair at Brooklyn's powerHouse Books and another two producing for WNYC's Soundcheck, I joined NPR's music team in 2011. As a contributing reporter for the network, I've interviewed Ian MacKaye of Fugazi, played guitar with Bryce Dessner of The National, spent 24 hours in a Philly punk house with Waxahatchee and traced the fine-art origins of a Smashing Pumpkins album cover. As a producer, I've been responsible for overhauling our interviews section and elevating the quality of writing on the site overall. More recently I've ventured into podcast projects, including a conversation with musician Laura Jane Grace about how identity and economics shape the lifes of an artist, and spoken at industry events including the Future of Music Coalition Policy Summit.
