Water and the ocean, and our relationship to them, is at the core of my practice. My work reframes liquid landscapes to offer a sensuous vulnerability: a sense of destabilization and disorientation which can act to '…break the skin of existence in order to lay bare the generating axis of it’s becoming' (Kearney, 1998, Poetics of Imagining,... My work reframes liquid landscapes to offer a sensuous vulnerability: a sense of destabilization and disorientation which can act to '…break the skin of existence in order to lay bare the generating axis of it’s becoming' (Kearney, 1998, Poetics of Imagining, Modern to Post Modern). There is, in water, a sense of what James Elkins calls in What Is Photography, "the post-modern sublime," a "measured chill and reverberating emptiness." Our relationship to water carries our primal origins as well as cultural, social, and political perspectives. My practice explores liquid spaces to create images and installations that embody a state of becoming as the viewer encounters imagined space through the images shared from these environments.

📖 Summary
After a commercial career in art and design, working as a properties and art director in advertising, and founding an agency for illustrators, the Fabulous Bureau of Illustrators (FBI), I became a full time artist in 2002, studying and practicing sculpture in cast glass before completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Post-graduate Diploma and Masters of Art and Design at AUT University in 2013. The primary focus of my investigation was photography video and installation. My sculpture has featured in a number of exhibitions, including Sculpture on Shore, 'Shape Shifter' at The New Dowse Gallery, 'Suspended' at Art Station and 'Blue Glass' at the Glass Artist Gallery in Sydney. My photography and multimedia installations have featured in shows in the Auckland Art Gallery, St Paul St Gallery,St Paul St Gallery 3, TSB Wallace Arts Centre, Black Asterisk Gallery and Second Storey. I am represented by Antoinette Godkin Gallery, 30 York Y32, St Parnell, Auckland, NZ.
