Cambridge MAMajor @ US Army Reserves Dep. Chief, Future Operations, SJFHQ-E (7/06/2015-) From April 2014 to February 2017 (2 years 11 months) Ft. Belvoir, VAResearch Microbiologist @ Naval Research Laboratory Within the Center for Biomolecular Science and Engineering, I lead investigations into the relationship between environmental and host associated microbial ecology, human performance, physiology and health. This work involves developing novel sensors and data acquisition/analysis strategies for both the microbiology and the human factors. Collaborations with other centers, agencies, academics and industry are key in a program of this scope. From June 2014 to September 2016 (2 years 4 months) Instructor, MCDB S-121 @ Yale University Instructor for undergraduate biology laboratory; two simultaneous sections. Developed curriculum, composed laboratory manual, managed one teaching assistant and taught one section personally. From June 2004 to September 2004 (4 months) New Haven, CTSystem Administrator, Center for Computational Ecology @ Yale University Managed servers; originally HP-UX, later Windows NT 4.0, then Windows Server 2000; for the purpose of scientific computation and data storage. From September 1998 to June 2002 (3 years 10 months) New Haven, CTMajor @ US Army Reserves Joint Human Resources From February 2017 to June 2018 (1 year 5 months) Major @ US Army Reserves Deputy Director, Dept. of Wound Infections, WRAIR, Silver Spring MD.The Department of Wound Infections was created in response to the complex infections which afflict some of those soldiers wounded by improvised explosive devices. The Department pursues basic and applied research to improve the care of serious combat wounds by preventing, diagnosing and treating infection. The Department has already created unique knowledge about the nature and course of these infections, developed unique resources to understand some of the key infectious organisms, and assessed a number of potential infection treatment strategies.I bear department-level leadership and administrative responsibilities in the Department of Wound Infections; I attempt to lead and care for the personnel of the department, and provide scientific vision. In addition, I am the lead PI of a modest research group within the department: the 'microbiome' research group. This research group includes microbial ecology, clinical microbiology, and an adjunct biodebridement research effort. The groups accomplishments include creating an animal model to test debridement, evaluating a significant number of clinical wound samples using next-generation sequencing technology, screening a panel of clinical isolates for antagonistic interactions, testing fly species for biodebridement potential, building transposon mutant pools in two Acinetobacter strains, and demonstrating the probiotic potential of clinical Acinetobacter isolates in an animal model. The group is also engaged in the Hospital Microbiome Project, funded by the Sloan Foundation and in collaboration with USUHS and the military treatment facilities. Finally, at the institute level, I address organizational challenges in scientific computation, information technology, and bioinformatics. From March 2013 to April 2014 (1 year 2 months) Silver Spring, MDCaptain @ US Army Reserves Deputy Director, Dept. of Wound Infections, WRAIR, Silver Spring MD.The department engages in basic and applied research which may impact the care of serious combat wounds; particularly the prevention and management of infection.I bear department-level leadership and administrative responsibilities in the Department of Wound Infections; I attempt to lead and care for the personnel of the department, and provide scientific vision.
