Please check out more about our mission at: http://healthit.modis.com/about/ From April 2014 to Present (1 year 9 months) Greater Denver AreaBehavioral Health Intervention Specialist @ I work directly with youth who suffer from mental illnesses and a range of different behavioral health issues. Based upon treatment plans, I model and coach positive decision-making skills, appropriate reactions, and the ability to manage adverse emotions and circumstances.
My responsibilities include but are not limited to: developing treatment relationships with the child and family and providing services within the evaluated treatment plan, complete case notes and progress reports, develop working relationships with other corresponding workers and professionals involved in the clients’ lives.
By using learning resources and real life experiences, through repetition and consistency, our hope is that clients and families learn how to change their pattern of thinking and consequently their behavior. From July 2013 to April 2014 (10 months) Personal Investigator @ I assist Dr. William Coryell with his portion of a multiple institution research collaboration studying the pharmacogenomics of BiPolar Type I disorder. This study is led by the University of San Diego. My assistance ranges from using the hospitals Electronic Medical Records Software, EPIC, to screen potential BiPolar I subjects, assist during subject assessment interviews, and administer mental health tests and measurements after intake. I am also currently helping him write a manuscript for publication on a previous study focused on Bipolar Type I disorder and suicide success statistics. From January 2013 to April 2014 (1 year 4 months) Iowa City, Iowa AreaNeuromuscular Biomechanics Personal Investigator @ I currently work with Dr. Laura Frey-Law writing manuscripts on our studies of human personality and the pain experience. Our content includes research we had conducted together while I worked with her in the summers of 2010 and 2011.
We are interested in the phenomenon and perception of catastrophizing during painful experiences; the degree to which one magnifies, ruminates, and feels helpless. Furthermore, we're interested in how that catastrophizing may intensify the perception of ones pain, or how the pain may intensify the consequent catastrophizing. We are currently writing about a conducted path analysis to zero in on the experience of which experience precedes the other. Additionally we are beginning to write a manuscript about the factor structure of the Pain Catastrophizing Scale used during data collection for this study, as well as the cross-situational consistency of pain.
Finally, I am currently helping run subjects through 2 different studies in our lab; a 'Neck Muscle Strength' study being conducted for the Department of Defense, and a pain study "Central Sensitization and Individual Differences." Within the neck study, I am also assisting in the coding, organization, and analysis of the data to be presented to the DOD. From October 2012 to April 2014 (1 year 7 months) Iowa City, Iowa AreaYouth Counselor, Psychiatric Medical Institute for Children @ I worked with youth ranging from 14-17 years of age who suffered from a range of mental health disorders often as a result of physical and sexual abuse histories. At Four Oaks our mission is to assure children become successful adults by way of incorporating four important components; the kid, their family, their community, and the agency. Four Oaks has also been widely recognized for their newly shown effectiveness and radical approach of trauma-informed care.
I did my best as a youth counselor to assist the clients in their treatment goals per good decision-making skills, positive self talk, goal setting, and appropriate reactions to unfortunate life events. I was incredibly proud to be a part of their journey and the family of Four Oaks. From January 2013 to August 2013 (8 months) Cedar Rapids, Iowa AreaServer & Hostess @ From high school into post-college I worked as a server and hostess at the following four restaurants. -strong people skills
-flexibility and resiliency
-strong work ethic From January 2006 to October 2012 (6 years 10 months) Administrative Intern @ I worked as an intern for Chicago Commons regarding their NRI, Neighborhood Recovery Initiative Grant and the Mentoring-Plus-Jobs component. This program focused on integrating job experience, life skills and resume building opportunities to inner-city youth who had violent criminal history in their records. My responsibilities ranged from helping with administrative tasks to direct service work with youth in the program. From June 2012 to September 2012 (4 months) Greater Chicago AreaAdmissions Student Worker & Tour Guide @ As an Admissions student worker, I worked weekly hours in the visit center assisting with prospective student recruitment, tour confirmations, tracking phone, email, and in person visits with admissions counselors, and giving campus tours.
I was also available to help with any assistance needed around the office, such as preparing for upcoming visit events, answering prospective students and families questions via phone or in person, and most importantly making families visits as enjoyable and smooth as possible. From July 2008 to May 2012 (3 years 11 months) Phonathon co-chair @ After being recognized on campus as a leader, I was sought out by the Phonathon committee and Alumni office to volunteer in helping market, campaign, and recruit others to join in the mission of alumni gift-giving. Over the years, millions of unrestricted dollars have been donated by thankful and generous alumni. That money is used to help offset tuition, add to scholarships and enhance programming all across campus.
I was proud to be a part of this experience while on campus, and am proud to say I am now, one of those thankful Alumni, giving back to my alma mater. From 2010 to 2012 (2 years) Alumni Office Student Worker @ I assisted around the office with organization of visits, communication, and donations made by alumni.
