Located in northern Manhattan on the campus of Yeshiva University, Yeshiva University High School draws its 300 students from the greater New York metropolitan area. Approximately 85% of the student body commutes; the other 15%, drawn from throughout the Americas, Europe and Israel, lives in its campus residence hall. YUHSB is a fully accredited academic high school, grades 9 through 12, whose religious and educational philosophy mandates programs of excellence in both religious and secular academic studies. To this end, the school runs a demanding dual program of study, beginning at 8:10 a.m. with Tefillah and ending at 6:00 p.m. The teaching, guidance, and administrative staff are carefully selected from candidates who have extensive experience. A majority holds masters' degrees in their subject area and more than half hold additional degrees and certifications. Most members of the rabbinical staff hold a masters' degree in addition to ordination and many are involved in fields from law to mathematics. All students must take: • 4 years of intensive Judaic Studies • 4 years of English and History • 3 years of Math • 3 years of Science (including Biology and Chemistry) • 3 years of Physical Education • 2 years of Jewish History • 2 years of Hebrew Language • 2 electives Starting in sophomore year, qualified students may take AP courses in Biology, English Language, Computer Programming, American History, European History, Jewish History, Calculus, Physics and Psychology. Additional electives are offered in computers, mathematics, Physics, Public Speaking, and music. Advanced students may take courses at Yeshiva College. Amongst the plethora of extracurricular activities at YUHSB are its award-winning debate team, Model UN, College Bowl, Choir, various publications, and membership in Arista, the National Honor Society. The school takes pride in its championship varsity and junior varsity sports teams and community service.
