WMAR’s Emmy and Murrow award-winning news team’s goal is to report on whatever is relevant to the people who live in Eastern Maryland and help them connect to their neighborhoods and improve their lives and the lives of their families. WMAR airs an in-depth investigative news program, In Focus, Monday-Friday at 6 p.m.The station produces 22.5 hours of newscast every week and constantly explores opportunities for live streaming during breaking news and severe weather. WMAR was the first television station in Baltimore to expand its weekday morning newscast to 4:30 a.m.Baltimore is the largest city in Maryland and home to WMAR-TV, a Scripps-owned station since 1991. WMAR-TV was Maryland’s first commercial television station broadcasting to Baltimore and central Maryland beginning October 27, 1947. Owned and operated by The E.W. Scripps Company, we firmly believe in our mission to give light and let our viewers find their own way.Baltimore has very unique, cultural neighborhoods, each with its own personality with restaurants, shops and community hubs. Little Italy, Hampden and Harbor East are just a few examples. There are major sports teams in Baltimore. The Ravens, winners of the NFL's 2013 Super Bowl and MLB's Baltimore Orioles play at Camden Yards. Fans also come to Baltimore for the Preakness (the second leg of the Triple Crown). Baltimore also is home to Artscape which is the biggest free arts festival held in America. Baltimore-area key industries include the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland Health Systems, MedStar Health, Northrop Grumman and the Social Security Administration.Some of the colleges and universities located in the Greater Baltimore region include Baltimore City Community College, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Morgan State University, The Peabody Institute, Towson University and the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
