Volkswagen China broke ground on a new transmission plant in the western area of Tianjin's Economic-Technological Development Area in September 2012. The new plant is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen (China) Investment Co. Ltd. in Beijing and therefore a part of the Volkswagen Group China.The Volkswagen Automatic Transmission (Tianjin) Co. Ltd. serves as a driving force for the development of the automobile industry in Tianjin by importing the high-end and high-quality technology to establish automobile industry structure successively. In the upcoming years, Volkswagen Automatic Transmission (Tianjin) Co. Ltd. will launch three new types of transmission products. This new standard for efficient and comfortable transmissions represent the most advanced technology in the automotive industry and will support the future success and development of the Volkswagen automobile manufacturer in China, such as Shanghai Volkswagen and FAW-VW. To meet local customer demands for advanced, innovative and energy-saving products, Volkswagen Group introduces the concept of global environmental protection into China. Therefore, Volkswagen Automatic Transmission (Tianjin) Co. Ltd. will be one of the first companies which implement the global successful "Think Blue Factory"​. The advanced production technology will greatly reduce the consumption of energy, water, carbon-dioxide emissions, chemical solvents and other wastes.
