The Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center (VESC) was established in 1981 for the purpose of providing quality after-hours veterinary care to the Central Virginia region. In March of 2002, we expanded our services to 24 hours a day maintaining our commitment to provide state-of-the-art life saving services to both emergency and critical care. Board certified specialists in surgery, ophthalmology and dermatology joined our team to achieve our mission. CT scanning and ultrasound modalities were included shortly after, and in May of 2003 we began to offer Radioactive Iodine Therapy (I-131) for feline hyperthyroidism. In January of 2006 the Veterinary Emergency Center joined forces with Veterinary Emergency Center South (VECS) (previously known as Animal Emergency Care). After five years of successful practice on their own, the Southside location was ready to grow with the Carytown clinic in providing more comprehensive, cooperative care for our patients and clients.
