Sensium Healthcare is a global pioneer in wireless monitoring of vital signs. Its core product is SensiumVitals®, a revolutionary wireless vital signs monitoring system for use in hospital general wards and emergency departments. SensiumVitals is based on a lightweight patch which takes readings of patients' heart rate, respiration and temperature. The data are sent wirelessly to hospitals' IT systems and alerts are issued to clinicians if pre-set thresholds are exceeded. The system received FDA 510(k) clearance in 2011 and the CE Mark in 2013. The system was launched commercially in 2014. The key benefit of SensiumVitals is that it provides vital signs data between routine observation rounds which are conducted every four to eight hours. The system enables earlier detection of patient deterioration and allows nursing staff to intervene much more quickly - thereby improving patient care, shortening hospital stays and reducing healthcare costs. The system is based on Sensium Healthcare's proprietary ultra-low power technologies. As a result, SensiumVitals is the only lightweight wearable system which has a five day battery life and is capable of monitoring ambulatory patients. The company's algorithms ensure clinical-grade accuracy. SensiumVitals was developed over several years by world-renowned digital healthcare experts, including Professor Toumazou, Regius Professor of Engineering and founding director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College.
