St George’s Bristol is one of the country’s leading concert halls. It boasts a superb acoustic and unique atmosphere which attracts the world’s best artists.
A full and vibrant programme, with over 250 events each year, makes it an incredibly popular and important venue for all kinds of music.
St George’s is also a charity (registration number 295178) dedicated to promoting high quality music to diverse audiences. We do this by offering the best classical, jazz, blues, folk and world music as well as family concerts and talks.
We rely on ticket sales and venue hire to meet much of our annual running costs of £1 million, receiving public funding of just £35,000. Each year we are faced with a shortfall of around £300,000 which must be raised from donations.
In addition to this core funding we are also fundraising to for our ambitious capital development appeal. Building a Sound Future will secure St George’s future as a world class performance venue, preserving, extending and enhancing our central Bristol home and transforming the visitor experience.
A key feature of the development is a bold new extension built within the surrounding garden of our main building, designed by award winning architects Patel Taylor.
KEY FEATURES OF THE PLANS INCLUDE:
- Enabling full and unhindered access to the hall for the first time
- A strikingly-designed new garden facing cafe/bar
- New foyer, box office and flexible multi-purpose spaces
- Improved backstage facilities for artists and staff
- New workshop and education spaces
- Greatly improved cloakroom and toilet provision
- Restoration and opening up of the 19th century gardens
With planning permission secured and with over £4 million of our £5.5 million budget raised, our final major challenge is to raise a further £1 million by the end of June 2016 to ensure building works can begin on schedule. To find out how you can support us visit www.buildingasoundfuture.com
