Description
Information
Shakespeare Santa Cruz (SSC) was a professional repertory theatre company in residence at the University of California, Santa Cruz from 1981 - 2013. SSC was comprised of three core programs: the summer theatre festival, the annual family holiday show, and Shakespeare to Go, a community engagement program that brought Shakespeare's plays into area schools and community centers.Drawing upon the talents of top theatre artists from around the country, SSC produced bold interpretations of the works of Williams Shakespeare and introduced audiences to the work of American playwrights whose plays complement the Shakespeare canon. The summer festival plays were held indoors on the UCSC Theater Arts Mainstage, and outdoors among the redwoods in the Sinsheimer-Stanley Festival Glen, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and unique outdoor settings in which to experience live theatre.UC Santa Cruz closed Shakespeare Santa Cruz at the end of the 2013 season. It was replaced in 2014 by an independent, non-profit organization, Santa Cruz Shakespeare, which performs in The Grove at DeLaveaga Park.
