Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (A Government Company of the State of Odisha)

Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGC Ltd.) was incorporated as a wholly owned Company of Government of Odisha on November 14, 1984 under the companies Act, 1956. Government of Odisha as part of reform process in energy sector, divested 49% of it's share capital in favour of a strategic investor namely AES Corporation, USA in the month of January, 1999. The company is now operating its own thermal power station with a capacity of 420 MW (2 X 210 MW) at IB Thermal Power Station, Banharpali of Jharsuguda District in the state of Odisha. The entire generation from this existing two units of IB Thermal Power Station is committed to Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) on the basis of a long term Power Purchase agreement. OPGC has also undertaken the construction of seven Mini Hydel Stations having a total capacity of 5.105 MW as technological demonstration and at present 2 Hydel units are in operation. Actions are being taken to compete the balance work of other 4 projects with a view to make them operative. The expansion projects of OPGC i.e. 2 X 660 MW super critical units are in progress.
