National Bank was established in 1841 and became the first bank in the modern Greek state, with a decisive contribution to the financial life during these 177 years of history. Nowadays, National Bank leads one of the largest and strongest financial groups in Greece, with a presence in Southeast Europe and Eastern Mediterranean. With 509 Units and 1,471 ATMs, it has an extensive service network covering the entire geographical area of Greece, while at the same time it is developing alternative distribution channels for its products, such as the Mobile and Internet Banking services. Today, the network of the Bank abroad includes 66 units, while the Group employs 10,294 employees (data as of 31.12.2018). National Bank offers a broad range of financial products and services that meet the ever changing needs of businesses and individuals. Customer service adapts to their requirements on an ongoing basis through a combination of on- and off-line transaction processing options, as well as the services of the Bank’s experienced employees. It would be fair to describe it as the Bank of the Greek Family, as it controls 1/4 of the retail banking market and has 36% market share in deposits. The share of deposits reflects the confidence of the savings customers, which are its driving force. National Bank of Greece has been a member of the ATHEX Derivatives Market since it was first launched, and is licensed as a Class-1 Market Maker. Until 1928, NBG enjoyed the right to issue banknotes in Greece. The NBG share is listed on both the Athens and New York stock exchanges.
