Founded in 1926, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors-Iowa (NAIFA-Iowa) is a federation of 16 local associations representing nearly 1,200 sales professionals statewide in the insurance and related financial services industry. Members are primarily engaged in the sale of life and health insurance and related financial services. When a person joins the association, they actually join one of the 16 local associations, which in turn makes them a member of the state association (NAIFA-Iowa) and the national association (NAIFA, formerly National Association of Life Underwriters). NAIFA is a federation of the individual locals, NAIFA-Iowa is primarily a go between to help facilitate activities on the local level. Each local has their own board of directors and officers (as does NAIFA-Iowa and NAIFA). The primary purpose of NAIFA-Iowa is to facilitate the education of life underwriters and financial service professionals. Along this line is the active involvement to the state and national association in legislative activities. NAIFA-Iowa has a contract lobbying team (Scott Weiser and Brenda Neville) and NAIFA maintains a team of lobbyists in Washington D.C. We also use individual members and a state Legislative Chairman to act as a liaison to legislators. NAIFA-Iowa holds an annual convention each year in May and the NAIFA annual convention is held each year in September.
