A subsidiary of Israel Discount Bank Ltd. Mercantile Discount Bank is one of israel’s seven largest banks according to assets, and the sixth largest bank in terms of the number of branches. The bank has 71 branches throughout Israel. The origins of the bank go back to the Anglo–Egyptian bank which extended its operations to Palestine in 1918. In 1925 the Anglo–Egyptian bank became part of Barclays bank (Dominion, Colonial and Overseas) subsequently known as Barclays bank International.
