Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is a 100% Government owned limited liability company incorporated under the Companies Act of the Maldives. MACL is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Privatization and Corporatization Board of the Maldives. The Corporate Office of MACL is on the island of Hulhule’, Republic of Maldives. In addition to managing Velana International Airport (VIA) and its operations, MACL has also being assigned “exclusively” as the National Air navigation Service Provider. The company is responsible for provision of Air traffic services to VIA as well all other airports in the Maldives. MACL has over 2,600 employees and has a diverse operations and business units within the company. At VIA, apart from Air Traffic Management services, MACL is responsible for Ground Handling, Terminal and Passenger Services, Fire and Rescue Services, Fuel Services, Cargo Services, Lounge Services and Duty Free. Moreover MACL holds the responsibility of Utility services, Municipal and Maintenance services a Velana International Airport. Velana International Airport serves to more than 33 international airlines connecting to more than 30 cities including major hubs in Europe, Middle East, South Asia, South East Asia and the Far East. VIA accommodates to nearly 3 million passengers & attracts some of the biggest airlines in the globe. VIA is the base airport to 3 home based airlines & harbors the biggest seaplane operations in the world.With the recent airport development projects, new international passenger terminal building will have an increased built-up area of more than 78,000 square meters which will accommodate 7.5 million international passengers. The international terminal will have 6 passenger boarding bridges, state-of-the-art baggage handling systems, expanded duty free shops and a variety of food outlets.
