Treasurer Michael Frerichs serves as the state’s banker and chief investment officer. His office's primary responsibility is to protect and wisely invest taxpayers’ money while boosting the Illinois macro and micro economy. At any given time, the State Treasurer manages about $20 billion in state and local funds and $7 billion in college savings plans.
