Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet supports the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and our Portfolio Ministers on policies across the full range of government activities and the machinery of government, and ensures implementation of cabinet decisions. Who We Are We are a motivated and professional Department with around 1,000 staff. We welcome people with diverse experiences and from diverse backgrounds. PM&C operates in three main groups: • Domestic Policy Group (Social, Economic, and Industry & Jobs Policy) develops economic, environmental, social and urban policies. • National Security and International Policy Group provides advice to the Prime Minister and coordinates across Government on intelligence, defence and security, and foreign trade and international relations. • Governance Group provides support services for government operations as well as official and ceremonial support. It also provides the Department’s key enabling functions. We take a whole-of-nation approach working closely with communities, stakeholders and across all areas of government, and acknowledge the special place of the First Peoples of our nation. We lead the APS in rigorous and collaborative policy development, implementation and program delivery.
