CEA Cadarache

The Cadarache center is one of the most important research and technological development centers for energy in Europe. Created in 1959, it is located in the town of Saint Paul Lez Durance (Bouches-du-Rhone).The activities of the center are spread over several technological research and development platforms mainly focused on energy (nuclear energy, new technologies for energy, plant ecophysiology and microbiology). Through its research, the center supports the nuclear industry, develops the systems for the nuclear fission of the future and fusion (support for the Iter project), develops the nuclear propulsion of the French Navy, while promoting alternative energies to fossil fuels: solar, bioenergy. It has internationally renowned research expertise and facilities in the fields of fuels, reactors and nuclear technologies. Examples include the Jules Horowitz Reactor (JHR) under construction, the WEST tokamak / Tore-Supra test bench for Iter, and the RES reactor for naval propulsion. Cadarache also includes “La Cité des Energies”, dedicated to innovation in the field of alternative energy and energy efficiency of buildings. Cadarache is an important training center with one of the 5 teaching units of INSTN. Several collaborations have been developed with regional companies, the AMU - Aix-Marseille University and research institutes within the framework of scientific collaborations, teaching and the creation of mixed laboratories.
