Amgros is the Regions' pharmaceutical organisation We are a politically run organisation, which is owned by the regions. It is our purpose in this world to create economies of scale and administrative savings by consolidating the purchase of pharmaceuticals in one place. We live up to our purpose by ensuring the regions make an annual saving of DKK 1.3 billion. The main task at Amgros is to ensure that the public hospitals in Denmark always have the necessary pharmaceuticals available - and are always purchased at the lowest possible price. We solve this task in practice through tendering and bulk purchasing. We are responsible for purchasing 99 percent of the pharmaceuticals that are used in public hospitals in Denmark. We are also responsible for purchasing hearing aids for the country's hearing clinics. AMGROS SUPPORTS THE HOSPITAL PHARMACIES: Apart from ensuring cheap pharmaceuticals for the Danish hospitals, at Amgros we are also responsible for assisting the hospital pharmacies to solve their tasks. This includes being in charge of registration and coordination of the pharmaceuticals that are produced at the hospital pharmacies nationwide. We are also in charge of the development of the IT systems for communication and collaboration, as well as managing the purchase, storage and distribution of the pharmaceuticals. At Amgros, we help to promote quality, development and safety in medicinal treatment across the regions. We do this through a strong collaborative research with the hospital pharmacies. Moreover, we support the hospital pharmacies administratively, so they can use more resources on their core services. HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT: Amgros was established in 1990 by the then existing regions as a purchasing company for the health industry. Since 1st January 2007, we have taken care of medicine purchase for public hospitals nationwide. In January 2008, Amgros I/S merged with SAD I/S at the request of the regions....
