The Allentown School District is part of 17 square miles that encompass the City of Allentown – with a total population of 118,032 (US Census, 2010). The richness of Allentown's diversity is strengthened by the District's central role in educating for America's future through academic excellence and celebrating the cultural, athletic and artistic range of talent in the schools. Parker who was named Superintendent for Allentown School District in December 2016 and began his new role on July 1, 2017. Facts and Figures (as of Winter 2017) - Current Enrollment: 16,628 Grade-Level Enrollment: - Elementary Schools & Early Childhood Centers (15): 7,976 - Middle Schools (4): 3,520 - High Schools (3): 5,369 Families denoted as Low Income (as of 12/3/15): 89.1% Percentage of students receiving Free/Reduced Lunch: 100% Total Personnel: 2,292 - ASD is the third largest urban school system out of 500 Districts in the Commonwealth. - Serving a community with a poverty rate of 38.64% of the City's population. (2013 Census) - Seven different employee associations/unions including the Allentown Education Association, an affiliate of the National Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. - The Allentown School District Foundation, established in 2009 as a 501(c) 3 tax exempt independent public charity, is expanding enrichment opportunities for ASD students.
