Waterkeeper Alliance

Waterkeeper Alliance is a global environmental association uniting more than 260 Waterkeeper organizations around the world—each dedicated to a particular body of water. Members of Waterkeeper Alliance emphasize citizen advocacy to promote the fundamental human right to swimmable, drinkable, and fishable waters. Waterkeepers patrol more than 2 million square miles of rivers, streams and coastlines in the Americas, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa. We combine firsthand knowledge of our waterways with an unwavering commitment to the welfare of our communities and to the rule of law. Waterkeeper Alliance ensures that the world’s Waterkeepers are as connected to each other as they are to their local waters, organizing the fight for clean water into a coordinated global movement. Waterkeeper Alliance aspires to create significant cultural change. We ignite cultural change by taking actions that: empower communities to conserve their water resources; promote environmental justice; preserve ways-of-life; and promote, by example and through discourse, the ideals of ecological sustainability and participatory democracy. This culture change is built on the pillars of durable economic prosperity, social justice, and human and ecological health.
