Description
Information
Our mission is to ensure access to justice for people experiencing poverty. By providing tools, advice, and pro bono representation, we seek to empower New Jersey's economically disadvantaged and secure their fair treatment within the legal system. VLJ was founded in 2001 to provide direct legal representation to the residents of Essex County, New Jersey. Under the leadership of founding executive director Karen Sacks, we grew into a statewide pro bono leader and incorporated into a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in 2008. Today, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice has 9 pro bono programs, 28 trustees, a panel of over 1,700 volunteers, and hundreds of donors all working together to ensure that justice is available to everyone, regardless of their income.
